Mark Fischbach—better known to millions as Markiplier—is finally bringing his horror feature Iron Lung to digital platforms. The film adaptation of the acclaimed indie video game is slated for a May 31 release, arriving exclusively via YouTube.

During a spotlight panel at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Fischbach confirmed the digital debut, explaining that his choice to keep the film a YouTube exclusive stems from a deep-rooted loyalty to the platform that launched his career. As reported by Deadline, this release will be hosted on YouTube’s Movies & TV storefront. While pricing details remain under wraps, viewers should anticipate a standard premium digital rental or purchase cost, likely falling within the $19.99 to $29.99 range typical for new releases. Information regarding the physical media edition remains sparse following its initial February announcement.

Inspired by the 2022 cult-classic horror game by David Szymanski, the film captures the original’s dread-filled premise. The story follows a condemned prisoner tasked with piloting a cramped submarine through an ocean of blood on a desolate alien moon. Fischbach not only self-funded the project but also took on the roles of writer, director, and lead actor.

The film proved to be an unexpected powerhouse at the box office after its January 30 debut, raking in more than $50 million against a modest $3 to $4 million production budget. While creator-led films often face skepticism, Iron Lung defied expectations, earning warm praise from both critics and fans. Many, including Polygon’s own analysis, lauded the movie for its oppressive atmosphere and effectiveness, suggesting that established studios might learn a thing or two from its disruptive success.

For those who missed the theatrical run, the digital release offers a perfect opportunity to experience the tension firsthand. Looking ahead, Fischbach teased that his cinematic ambitions are only just beginning, hinting that he plans to dive into his next project by 2027.
