As we mark the first anniversary of inZOI, I want to take a moment to reflect on our journey and unveil our vision for the future.
Every new venture begins with a spark of excitement, but when we first introduced our players to the world on March 28, 2025, I was gripped more by apprehension than anticipation. Releasing inZOI into Early Access just one week after a demo was a calculated risk. From a technical standpoint, maintaining two separate builds simultaneously was far from efficient. However, this choice was intentional. I believed the game wasn’t yet a “finished” premium product, and I wanted players to experience the demo first to ensure the game aligned with their tastes and hardware. A year ago, I wasn’t campaigning for sales; if anything, I was urging caution.
To ensure stability across a spectrum of hardware, I even brought my own PCs into the studio, spending countless weekends troubleshooting. There were moments when technical hurdles seemed insurmountable, the kind of roadblocks that can stifle a creator’s spirit. Yet, your unwavering support over the past year has been our greatest motivator. As a small token of my gratitude, this latest build includes a commemorative anniversary cake that reveals a heartfelt message when sliced. It is a modest gesture, but it represents my deep appreciation for your patience as we refine this evolving experience. I remain mindful of the work still ahead—bugs to squash, content to polish, and memory optimization to finalize—but our team is rapidly gaining the expertise needed to master this genre.
Looking back, I realize the immense difficulty of this genre; the complexity is staggering, and balancing development costs with player satisfaction is a monumental task. This likely explains why such games are so rare. Despite these challenges, engaging with you on Discord and witnessing the game improve through your feedback has been my greatest joy. I honestly expected players to drift away quickly, but instead, we’ve maintained a vibrant, ongoing dialogue. In my thirty years of game development, this has been the most profound journey of my career. Thank you.
In the spirit of this milestone, I recommend a book that has influenced my perspective: The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer. Its Stoic philosophy—embracing what we cannot control and shedding unnecessary anxiety—mirrors the emotional depth we hope to cultivate within inZOI.
The “Fundamentals First” Initiative
Our ongoing commitment to the game’s core architecture is moving ahead of schedule, with 55 milestones already achieved. Throughout April, we will pivot our focus from adding new features to aggressive bug fixing and stability. We are dedicated to refining existing content and ensuring every identified issue is addressed. Our primary objective for the month is comprehensive optimization, specifically focusing on:
- Granular Graphics Settings: New options will allow players with modest hardware to enjoy a fluid experience without compromising the visual fidelity for high-end users.
- System Memory Management: We are tackling memory leaks and overhead issues common to simulations, introducing new tools for players to manage memory usage based on their specific hardware.
2025 Content Roadmap
While stability remains our priority, we have an ambitious schedule of content slated for the remainder of the year:
April: Professional Life & Freelancing
We are overhauling the career system to include job interviews, promotions, collaborative projects, and even retirement systems. A freelance economy will debut, allowing Zois to take on side gigs like delivery services. Furthermore, the creator economy will transition to a weekly residual income model.
May: Academic Milestones
The high school experience moves beyond the “rabbit-hole” system. Players can now participate in active school days, including exams, social cliques, prom night, and graduation ceremonies.
July: Global Travel & Civil Systems
Inter-city travel and immigration will become available, alongside significant enhancements to the Cahaya resort. We will also introduce a prison system and resolve complexities regarding family trees across different regions.
September: Culture & Automotive Depth
City-wide festivals and player-defined holidays will populate the calendar. Vehicle interactions will see a massive expansion, featuring car washes, repairs, in-car social dynamics, and a functional taxi service (both as a passenger and a driver).
October: The Evolution of Karma
A comprehensive system will track a Zoi’s moral trajectory throughout their life, culminating in an improved, detailed karma report.
December: Fame & Digital Influence
The year concludes with the introduction of celebrities, social media stardom, and reputation systems. Expect a more dynamic and unpredictable social landscape for your Zois.
Advancing the Modding Frontier
Your feedback highlighted a massive demand for script mods. We are accelerating our development in this area and hope to launch these tools by summer. Our goal is to create a premier modding ecosystem, featuring:
- Intuitive Toolsets: A dedicated GUI for cheat functions and HTML-based interfaces for streamlined mod creation.
- Direct Support: Specific Discord channels and support staff dedicated to assisting the modding community.
The Vision for Canvastown
While simulation games offer freedom, they can sometimes feel static. Canvastown is our solution—a system designed to turn gameplay into shareable narratives. Unlike the current Canvas, which focuses on assets, Canvastown will allow players to share entire “save files” and unique story scenarios. These worlds, often enhanced by mods and cheats, can be explored solo or with friends in small-scale multiplayer sessions.
I have realized that our players are the ultimate “creators.” The volume of brilliant ideas you share is more than our team could ever build alone. Canvastown is designed to empower you to expand the game yourselves. By providing high-quality assets and accessible modding tools, we hope to see inZOI transcend being a mere game and become a living, breathing world built by its community.
We are working toward a test build for these systems, but our immediate focus remains the stability of the current experience. As we enter our second year, we promise to keep listening, keep refining, and continue taking the creative risks necessary to make inZOI truly extraordinary.
Thank you for being part of this world.
With gratitude,
Kjun
