Hulu Confirms Prison Break Revival Is Coming to Streaming
Hulu has revealed a first look at Prison Break: Black Creek, a spinoff set in the same universe as the original Fox crime drama. The series is now in production and is “coming soon” to Hulu and Disney Plus. Fox’s early-2000s hit is returning under Disney.
The teaser offers little detail. Deadline supplies this description: “A soldier-turned-corrections officer takes a job at one of the deadliest prisons in America to prove just how far she’ll go for someone she loves.” The story takes place at the fictional Black Creek Penitentiary.
Who is working on the series?
Elgin James (Mayans M.C., The Outlaws) is the showrunner. The teaser reveals that he will also direct, and Vanessa Joy Smith will handle cinematography. Dawn Olmstead, who executive produced the original series, returns to that role. Disney-owned 20th Television is handling production.
The cast includes:
- Drake Rodger (The Winchesters) as Tommy
- Clayton Cardenas (Mayans M.C.) as Michael “Ghost”
- JR Bourne (Teen Wolf) as Junior
- Georgie Flores (Famous in Love) as Andrea
- Myles Bullock (BMF) as Darius “Red”
Noah Emmerich (Murdaugh: Death in the Family, Dark Winds) will play Callum Faulls, a West Virginia power broker.
What was the original Prison Break about?

Prison Break aired from 2005 to 2009 and returned with a new season in 2017. It begins with two brothers, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) and Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller). Lincoln is sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit, so Michael devises an elaborate plan to break him out of prison.
The show proved very popular and ran for 90 episodes. Many viewers soured on it, though, as later seasons drifted from the original premise.
Hopefully Black Creek will capture the appeal that made the original work.
