Hulu Cancels Hitman TV Series

Hulu has officially pulled the plug on its long-gestating series based on the Hitman video game franchise. The news was confirmed by screenwriter Derek Kolstad, the creative force behind the John Wick saga, who had been tasked with bringing the project to life.

“It’s dead in the water… You never know these days, but it seems there’s no hope left for it. I truly enjoyed the process because I have such a deep affinity for the game and the character. The reality is, I can pen the script, but that doesn’t guarantee someone will step up to buy it,”

Kolstad lamented in a recent interview with The Direct. First announced in 2017, the series was intended to delve into the lore of the elite, genetically enhanced assassin who first debuted in the gaming world in 2000.

Agent 47 has previously transitioned to the silver screen on two occasions: in 2007, portrayed by Timothy Olyphant, and again in 2015 with Rupert Friend in the title role. Both cinematic iterations were panned by critics and failed to make a significant impact at the global box office.

This cancellation follows Hulu’s decision to scrap its planned Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. That project had reportedly been linked to original star Sarah Michelle Gellar and Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland).
