Tim Burton is preparing a new project with author Kazuo Ishiguro
Deadline has revealed that director Tim Burton is developing a new feature film based on an original screenplay by Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro, renowned for works such as Never Let Me Go and Klara and the Sun.
While specific plot details remain under wraps, industry insiders suggest the narrative may be set in postwar Japan. However, Ishiguro has dismissed claims regarding the film’s genre:
It is not a war film. It defies easy categorization. It is a Tim Burton film,
— he remarked in an interview with Variety.
Burton’s most recent feature, the Beetlejuice sequel, was released in the autumn of 2024, grossing over $452 million worldwide. The filmmaker has also recently wrapped production on the third season of Wednesday, which is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2027.
