Denis Villeneuve explains his decision to direct the new Bond film

In a recent interview with Empire, Dune director Denis Villeneuve shared updates on the franchise’s upcoming third installment and opened up about his potential involvement in the 26th James Bond feature.

Villeneuve admitted that taking on a project as iconic as 007 would serve as the perfect creative cleanse to help him transition away from the expansive universe of Arrakis.

“I thought, ‘Once this is all over, I’m going to need a very powerful rocket to get me as far away from Arrakis as possible.’ When the opportunity to direct the next Bond film came up, I thought, ‘That sounds like just the escape I need,'”

— the filmmaker recalled.

The next chapter of the Bond saga is being produced by Amazon MGM. While details regarding the release date and the actor chosen to portray the legendary spy remain under wraps, a preliminary script has already been drafted by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.

Dune: Part Three is scheduled for its international theatrical release on December 18.
