Hulu Cancels Hitman TV Series

Hulu has officially pulled the plug on its television adaptation of the Hitman video game franchise. The news was confirmed by the project’s creator, Derek Kolstad, the creative mind behind the John Wick series.

“It’s dead in the water… Given the current industry climate, it seems all hope has vanished. It’s a shame because I have a deep affinity for the games and the character. The issue is that while I can produce a script, getting a network to actually greenlight and buy it is another matter entirely,”

Kolstad lamented during a conversation with The Direct. First announced in 2017, the series was intended to breathe new life into the stealth-action franchise that debuted in 2000, centering on an elite, genetically engineered assassin.

Agent 47 has had a rocky history with live-action transitions, having been adapted for the big screen twice: once in 2007 and again in 2015. Despite featuring stars like Timothy Olyphant and Rupert Friend, both films were panned by critics and struggled to make an impact at the box office.

This is not the only high-profile project Hulu has recently scrapped; the streaming giant also abandoned its planned Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. That production had previously been linked to original star Sarah Michelle Gellar and Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland).
