Hulu Cancels Hitman TV Series

Hulu has officially scrapped its long-gestating television adaptation of the Hitman video game franchise. The news was confirmed by the project’s creator, Derek Kolstad, the architect behind the John Wick series.

“It’s dead… you never know for sure these days, but it seems there’s no path forward. It’s a shame because I genuinely love the games and the character. I can write the scripts, but getting someone to pull the trigger on a purchase is another matter,”

Kolstad lamented in a recent interview with The Direct. Initially announced in 2017, the series was intended to draw inspiration from the stealth-action franchise that debuted in 2000, which centers on a genetically engineered elite assassin known as Agent 47.

The Hitman IP has previously attempted to conquer the silver screen twice, with feature films released in 2007 and 2015 starring Timothy Olyphant and Rupert Friend, respectively. Both iterations were panned by critics and failed to make a significant impact at the box office.

This cancellation follows reports that Hulu also abandoned its Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. That project was reportedly linked to original series lead Sarah Michelle Gellar and Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland).
