Hulu Cancels Hitman TV Series

Hulu has officially pulled the plug on its live-action series based on the Hitman video game franchise. The news was confirmed by the project’s creator, Derek Kolstad, the acclaimed writer behind the *John Wick* series.

“It’s dead… You never know in this industry, but it seems there is no path forward. I truly enjoyed working on it because I have a deep affection for the games and the character. The reality is that I can write the script, but finding someone to actually buy it and move forward is the challenge,”

— Kolstad revealed in a recent conversation with *The Direct*. The television adaptation was first announced in 2017. The *Hitman* games debuted in 2000, following the exploits of Agent 47, an elite, genetically engineered contract killer.

This is not the first attempt to bring the silent assassin to the screen. The franchise was previously adapted into two feature films in 2007 and 2015, starring Timothy Olyphant and Rupert Friend, respectively. Both cinematic entries were largely panned by critics and failed to make an impact at the box office.

The shelving of *Hitman* follows Hulu’s decision to cancel its *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* reboot. That high-profile project reportedly had original star Sarah Michelle Gellar and Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao (*Nomadland*) attached at various stages.
