How to Find a Battery in Subnautica: Below Zero

Good news: you can absolutely recharge your equipment in Subnautica 2, provided you have a battery terminal. It is surprisingly easy to overlook this essential mechanic. When your tools run dry, avoid the urge to waste resources crafting replacements; simply swap out the depleted batteries and power them back up. All you need is a charger installed in your base and the necessary components to build one.

Here is how to locate the battery terminal blueprint and effectively manage your energy stores in Subnautica 2.

How to unlock the battery terminal in Subnautica 2

To acquire the battery terminal blueprint, you must scan two separate battery terminals found within the ruins of the old pioneer structures. Starting from your Lifepod, head 380 meters north until you reach the Old Habitat. Look for the room identified by the “welcome home” sign and enter by passing through the opening in the floor.

Once inside the adjacent chamber, ascend the ladder. Turn to the right to locate your first battery terminal mounted on the wall, positioned directly across from a cluster of glowing plants.

Return to the lower level and follow the corridor leading southwest. You will encounter another ladder; ignore this one. Instead, check the wall to your right to discover the second battery terminal waiting to be scanned.

With the schematic secured, return to your base and utilize the Habitat Builder to mount a battery charger. The requirements for the construction are as follows:

  • 2 Titanium
  • 2 Quartz
  • 1 Copper Wire
    • 2 Copper

To restore energy, simply place your drained batteries into the terminal’s inventory. It can accommodate up to six batteries simultaneously. To swap a battery in a tool—such as the repair tool or sonic resonator—ensure the item is equipped. While holding it, trigger the “Reload” prompt and toggle left or right to cycle through the available batteries in your inventory. If you wish to simply eject a cell, select “Reload” followed by “Unload.”

For maximum efficiency, keep a few spare batteries in your terminal at all times. This allows you to swap them instantly upon returning from an expedition, ensuring you never have to wait for a recharge cycle.
