David Production Releases Teaser for Firefly Marriage Anime

The new drama from the creators of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure premieres on October 9.

The creators of the anime Firefly Wedding (Hotaru no Yomeiri) revealed a new teaser and announced an exact release date, confirming that the adaptation of Oreco Tachibana’s manga of the same name will begin airing on October 9.

The story is set during the Meiji period. Satoko Kirigaya was born into a wealthy family and possesses striking looks, but a severe illness leaves her with very little time to live. She hopes to find a suitable husband in time to thank her father for caring for her.

Satoko Kirigaya’s plans fall apart after a kidnapping. Thrust into mortal danger, Satoko Kirigaya meets the hitman Shinpei Goto and offers to marry him in exchange for his help. Conceived as a trick, the engagement takes an unexpected turn when Shinpei Goto takes the proposal seriously and begins to view Satoko Kirigaya as his betrothed.

Voice actors Lynn and Koki Uchiyama voice the main characters. David Production handles the animation production, a studio known for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and the new adaptation of Urusei Yatsura. Takahiro Kamei serves as director, Yuko Kakihara writes the screenplay, and Yukiko Aikei designs the characters.

The original Firefly Wedding manga ran from 2023 to 2026 and concluded with 11 volumes, with total circulation exceeding four million copies. The manga also won the grand prize at the 2024 Electronic Comic Award and took first place on the bookstore-recommended comics list for 2024.
