House of the Dragon Star Reveals When Final Season Filming Begins
The Game of Thrones prequel is nearing its finish line.
Gayle Rankin, who plays Alys Rivers in House of the Dragon, shared in an interview with The Direct that filming for the fourth and final season of the series will begin in early 2027. The actress also confirmed that she will return to her role, but did not disclose story details.
The concluding season will wrap up the story of the Targaryen civil war. Back in August, showrunner Ryan Condal stated that the creators had already determined the overall structure of the finale, and HBO had received a draft of the first episode’s script. At the time, he promised that the fourth season would surpass the third in scale, bringing new characters, dragons, and locations to viewers.
“Having the opportunity to tell the story, write its ending ourselves, and decide where and when it ends is a huge privilege. That kind of freedom is rare in the television industry. That is why we are returning to work with enormous enthusiasm. New characters, dragons, and locations lie ahead, which I hope will make the final season a worthy conclusion to the series.”

The premiere of the final season of House of the Dragon is scheduled for 2028, presumably in the summer. An exact release date has not been announced yet.
