Uncharted 2 Turns 17 as Players Recall Naughty Dog’s Acclaimed Sequel
Seventeen years after its release, Nathan Drake’s second adventure remains a benchmark for Hollywood-style action in video games.
The Uncharted sequel launched in the fall of 2009 and significantly surpassed the first installment in direction and technical execution. Among the most memorable sequences are escaping from a train car hanging over a precipice, chasing a helicopter through Nepalese ruins, and gunfights aboard a moving train.
The game impressed players with its natural environments, camera work, and character interactions while omitting the prominently highlighted ledges common today. Alongside the story campaign, it introduced a multiplayer mode and a cooperative survival arena where fans spent hundreds of hours.
For many players, the journey to the mythical city of Shambhala served as the primary reason to purchase a PlayStation 3. Even after nearly two decades and the release of technologically advanced sequels, a segment of the community still considers Among Thieves to be Naughty Dog’s finest work.
