Universal Pictures is developing a musical adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, according to media reports.
The title role will be played by singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter, known for the hit “Espresso” and the Disney Channel series “The Riley Stories.” Lorene Scafaria, director and writer of Hustlers, will serve as director and screenwriter. Among the producers is Marc Platt (La La Land, Wicked).
Plot details have not been revealed. The most famous film versions of Alice remain Disney’s 1951 animated classic and Tim Burton’s 2010 live-action movie. In October, a Russian-made musical version of Alice in Wonderland opened in theaters and went on to earn over 1 billion rubles.
