Hollywood Resumes Work on Female-Led Expendables Spin-Off
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Expendables” franchise is set to expand. Production companies Eclectic Pictures and Hollywood Ventures Group are developing a reimagined action film featuring an all-female ensemble cast.
Initial reports about this spin-off surfaced in the 2010s, when Robert Luketic (“Legally Blonde”) was eyed to direct. That early iteration followed a team of female operatives who posed as sex workers to rescue a kidnapped nuclear physicist, though the project was ultimately shelved.
The updated version will be set in the late 1990s, against a backdrop of geopolitical unrest. Specific details regarding the cast, director, and other key personnel have yet to be announced.
The original “Expendables” series, headlined by Sylvester Stallone and an array of action icons, launched in 2010. Spanning four films, the franchise has grossed a total of $855 million at the global box office.
