Ryan Coogler Shot the X-Files Pilot on 65mm Film

Ryan Coogler has wrapped production on the pilot episode for his *The X-Files* reboot, and, according to industry insiders, he has opted for a strikingly cinematic aesthetic. Reports suggest that the two-hour premiere was captured entirely on 65mm film—a high-end format rarely utilized in television production.

The cinematography was helmed by Autumn Durald Arkapaw, who previously collaborated with Coogler on *Sinners*. This choice of 65mm film is intended to imbue the series with a grand, immersive visual quality more commonly associated with major theatrical features than standard streaming fare.

Sources indicate that Coogler has also approached Disney with a proposal to debut the pilot in theaters prior to its arrival on Hulu. The studio has yet to reach a final decision, particularly as the series has not yet been greenlit for a full season; at this stage, only the pilot episode has been completed.
