Director Peter Berg has unveiled the first concrete details regarding the highly anticipated big-screen adaptation of the Call of Duty franchise. Speaking at Fanatics Fest in New York, the filmmaker confirmed that the movie will be set within the Modern Warfare universe, arguably the most celebrated chapter of the series.

Berg is set to direct and co-write the project, collaborating on the screenplay with Taylor Sheridan, the visionary creator behind the hit series “Yellowstone.” Plot specifics had remained under wraps since the film’s initial announcement in 2025.

The Modern Warfare sub-series made its landmark debut in 2007 with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, marking a pivotal shift for the franchise as it transitioned from World War II settings to contemporary geopolitical warfare. The narrative focuses on the iconic Captain John Price and the elite Task Force 141 as they neutralize global terrorist threats, including the series’ notorious antagonist, Vladimir Makarov.

The yet-to-be-titled Call of Duty film is currently slated for release on June 30, 2028.
