“The Odyssey” Conquers the Global Box Office
Christopher Nolan’s epic, The Odyssey, has shattered expectations. The film hauled in $51.2 million on its domestic opening day, marking the strongest debut of Nolan’s career and surpassing the initial earnings of both Oppenheimer ($33 million) and Interstellar ($47.5 million).
Industry analysts project a North American opening weekend haul of $120.5 million, with global figures expected to reach $257.8 million. Should these forecasts hold, The Odyssey will secure a spot among the year’s top-grossing premieres, trailing only The Super Mario Bros. Galactic Movie ($372.5 million) and Toy Story 5 ($312 million).
With a production budget of $250 million and an additional $125 million allocated by Universal for its marketing campaign, the film is a major undertaking. This adaptation of Homer’s classic poem features an ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Anne Hathaway. The narrative follows King Odysseus on his arduous journey home following his victory in the Trojan War, a voyage fraught with encounters with gods, mythical monsters, and other grave perils.
