Hollywood Prepares for the Third Installment of Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario

Actor Josh Brolin has confirmed that production on the third installment of the gritty action-thriller franchise Sicario is officially gaining momentum.

According to Brolin, the sequel is definitely moving forward, with cameras expected to roll in the near future. The original 2015 Sicario, directed by Denis Villeneuve, followed FBI agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) as she navigated the perilous landscape of the war on drugs, barely escaping with her life. The film was both a critical and commercial success, grossing $85 million and securing three Academy Award nominations.

A follow-up, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, arrived in 2018. Stefano Sollima took over directorial duties from Villeneuve, with Brolin and Benicio del Toro reprising their roles. However, the sequel received a more muted reception from critics.

As of 2023, producers noted that the script was in active development, expressing a strong desire to reunite Blunt, Brolin, and del Toro for the next chapter. It remains unclear who will occupy the director’s chair for the third film. Meanwhile, Brolin is set to appear in Ridley Scott’s upcoming project, Dogwatch.
