The iconic Kryptonian crest and the silver-haired wig of Geralt of Rivia are firmly in the rearview mirror for Henry Cavill. The actor is debuting a rugged new aesthetic for his leading role in the highly anticipated Highlander reimagining. Taking to Instagram, Cavill revealed a glimpse of his character’s wardrobe—a heavy leather trench coat paired with a prominent fur collar—evoking the kind of high-octane energy typically associated with action icons like Vin Diesel.

“Happy First Look for Highlander!” Cavill shared with his followers. “This has been an incredible journey for me, one I look forward to detailing when the time is right. It is a truly special moment to finally share this with you all. I hope you enjoy it.”

This reboot is steered by John Wick visionary Chad Stahelski, with Cavill having been attached to the project since 2021. The road to production has been lengthy, largely due to a significant injury Cavill sustained during intense physical preparation late last year. Now that cameras are officially rolling, the early visuals suggest a cinematic style deeply reminiscent of Stahelski’s neo-noir work. Though he has moved on from The Witcher, Cavill remains no stranger to the blade, as seen in promotional shots featuring a massive sword. The variety of settings in the teaser images suggests a narrative that spans vast geographical distances.

The star-studded supporting cast for the Highlander revival includes Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, and Max Zhang. The current screenplay was penned by Michael Finch, evolving from previous iterations developed by Ryan J. Condal and Kerry Williamson.

The franchise first captured the public imagination in 1986 with the original Highlander, starring Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal warrior born in the 16th-century Scottish Highlands. Sean Connery starred as his enigmatic mentor, Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, while Clancy Brown played the terrifying antagonist, the Kurgan, who hunted MacLeod through the streets of 1980s Manhattan. Following the original’s success, the property expanded into a 1991 sequel, several follow-up films, a popular television series, and a collection of spin-off novels.
