HBO has put into development a series centered on Jimmy Olsen, the ‘Superman’ character, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Skyler Gisondo — who played Olsen in James Gunn’s film and is known for his role in Licorice Pizza — is expected to reprise the part for the series. The character works as a photographer for the Daily Planet, and in the new show Jimmy will be hunting supervillains on his own, without help from Clark Kent (Superman) or Lois Lane.
Gisondo will return as the lead. The series will be showrun by Dan Perro and Tony Yacenda, the creators of American Vandal. A release date has not been announced.
‘Superman’ opened in July and went on to gross $616 million at the box office. The sequel, The Man of Tomorrow, is slated for summer 2027.
