GTA VI Will Not Feature a Full First-Person Mode
Rockstar Games will not include a full first-person mode across the campaign in Grand Theft Auto VI, moving away from a perspective offered in later editions of Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. The studio is focusing on a third-person perspective to ensure players can fully appreciate intricate character animations.
Content creator Davy Jones shared the information following a visit to Rockstar North. According to Jones, Rob Nelson, head of development and co-head of the studio, explained the team’s camera design: GTA VI was created from the ground up as a third-person experience, and the campaign will not feature a dedicated first-person mode.

The perspective will not disappear entirely. Players will still be able to aim down sights in first person with certain weapons, but switching the camera to freely explore the state of Leonida from that viewpoint will not be possible. Rockstar also did not showcase full gameplay from a first-person perspective during its major GTA VI presentation.
First-person gameplay originally debuted as a major feature in the re-releases of GTA V and later carried over into GTA Online. For GTA VI, Rockstar is prioritizing third-person play so players can clearly observe the nuanced animations of protagonists Jason and Lucia as well as surrounding environmental details.
