Grand Theft Auto remains one of the most commercially and culturally significant franchises in gaming, and anticipation for the next installment has been intense. Fans have waited more than a decade for a new mainline entry and several years since Rockstar’s last major release, Red Dead Redemption 2. The second official trailer drew massive attention online — amassing well over one hundred million views — and initially accompanied a push to May 2026. Today, Rockstar and its publisher confirmed another postponement.
According to reporting by Bloomberg, which reviewed Take-Two’s quarterly earnings materials, Grand Theft Auto VI is now slated to arrive on November 19, 2026. Rockstar subsequently posted an announcement on its official site confirming the new date.
Rockstar Games — statement excerpt
Grand Theft Auto VI is now scheduled to launch on Thursday, November 19, 2026. We understand this extends an already long wait, and we’re sorry for the extra time added. These additional months will let us refine and polish the game to the standards players expect. Thank you for your patience and support — we can’t wait for you to explore the state of Leonida and the modern return to Vice City.
This update effectively moves the title about a year beyond its earlier projected window of fall 2025.
Rockstar has also been in the headlines for personnel and workplace controversies. Bloomberg reported that roughly 30–40 employees were dismissed recently; the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain alleged the firings were tied to union activity on a private Discord server, while Rockstar has maintained the terminations were for leaking confidential materials and not related to union membership or organizing.
