Gran Turismo Developers Share How Many Years It Takes to Create a Single Track
Building a single track for the Gran Turismo franchise can take years, while modeling a single car requires months of work, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi explained.
The racing franchise has seen only one full mainline release since 2017, which arrived with Gran Turismo 7 in 2022. In an interview with British automotive magazine Evo, Yamauchi detailed the production timelines behind the series’ assets.
We also need a very detailed and accurate computer graphics model, including the exterior and interior of the car. It takes us eight months to build both the exterior appearance and the vehicle dynamics physics.

Track production takes even longer. Yamauchi cited the Nürburgring as a key example:
For example, recreating the Nordschleife – Nürburgring took us four years.
