Windows 11 Runs Faster in Games After 26H2 Update, but Not for Everyone
The Windows 11 26H2 update improves gaming performance, with the biggest gains in CPU-heavy games.
Microsoft is continuing to optimize Windows 11 for gaming. Tests of the 26H2 update showed a small performance increase, especially in games that put heavy load on the processor. On PCs with 8 GB of RAM, the system should also feel about 20% more responsive.
Hardware Unboxed previously found that Windows 11 is already noticeably ahead of Windows 10 in games. After the release of version 26H2, performance rose slightly compared with the previous version of the OS as well.
The improvements depend on the situation, however. If the processor limits the frame rate, the gain can be noticeable. When the graphics card is the bottleneck, players should not expect significant benefits.

Microsoft is also preparing further gaming improvements, including an updated Xbox app with an interface that resembles a console menu.
