How to trigger ‘Snaf’s Recipe’ in the Gothic 1 Remake

To pick up this quest, head into the Old Camp via the north gate—the entrance located just past the stone bridge near your initial spawn point. Once inside, bank a left. You will spot Snaf stationed by a large cooking pot. If he isn’t manning the cauldron, check inside the adjacent hut.

Simply strike up a conversation with Snaf and offer your assistance. He will explain his need for a specific culinary experiment and ask you to gather three pieces of bugmeat and five hellcaps.

Sourcing Bugmeat and Hellcaps

To acquire the bugmeat, you must eliminate three meatbugs. Starting from Snaf’s position, head left and circle the castle perimeter clockwise. After you pass the fighting pit, look for a wall with a ladder; you will find the insects crawling along the path there. Dispatch them and harvest the meat.

If you find yourself running short, explore dark, damp areas. Prime locations include two caves south of the Exchange Place, the terrain behind Cavalorn’s hut, and along the road leading toward the New Camp.

For the five hellcaps, exit the Old Camp via the northern gate, cross the stone bridge, and follow the path directly into the forest.

Stay on the road to avoid drawing the attention of nearby scavengers. Look for a large rock formation on the left; you’ll find a cluster of five hellcaps growing at the base of a nearby tree. While the forest holds more, this spot is the most efficient place to complete your collection in one go.

Once you’ve gathered all the items, return to Snaf to finish the quest. You will be rewarded with 100 experience points, a serving of meatbug ragout, and the recipe to craft the dish yourself. Additionally, Snaf will now provide you with a complimentary portion of ragout every day you visit him.
