A few weeks after the release of Ghost of Yotei, co-director Jason Connell and lead writer Ian Ryan addressed in an interview whether Atsu’s story is finished or if players should expect expansions similar to Ghost of Tsushima: Iki Island.
Ryan believes the game’s ending closes only one chapter of Atsu’s life. She achieved the revenge she sought, yet many challenges still await her.
“To me it’s simply the end of a chapter, but there’s so much still ahead. She’s learning to live without her brother and has stepped into a surrogate-mother role for her niece. Revenge is behind her, but she isn’t fully healed. She’s grown a lot and now can imagine a future beyond vengeance.”
Asked about future content, Connell said it largely depends on player response. Any DLC or expansions would only be pursued if fans want to learn more about Atsu. He added that, much like with Jin Sakai in Ghost of Tsushima, the team has a rare opportunity to discover what resonates with the audience and — if warranted — deepen the character’s arc.
