George Clooney awarded honorary Golden Lion for career achievement

During the opening ceremony of the Venice Film Festival, George Clooney was honored with the prestigious Golden Lion for lifetime achievement, presented to him by Laura Dern.

“When you’re handed a career achievement award, two thoughts immediately spring to mind. First, what an incredible honor this is. Second, do they know something that I don’t?”

— the actor quipped while accepting the trophy, before shifting to a more reflective tone.

“Cinema cannot halt wars, curb inflation, or alter the outcome of elections. Yet, film achieves something truly extraordinary: it reminds us that a stranger is never entirely a stranger—perhaps they are simply the protagonist of someone else’s story. If we can sit side-by-side in a darkened theater and empathize with another’s narrative, I believe we will be just fine,”

— Clooney added. Last year, the actor attended the festival with Noah Baumbach’s “The Meyerowitz Stories,” which competed for the main prize but ultimately went home empty-handed.

Some of Clooney’s most iconic projects include the “Ocean’s Eleven” franchise, “Up in the Air,” “The Ides of March,” “Gravity,” and “Hail, Caesar!,” among many others.
