Musician G. Love recently shared a harrowing personal update, revealing that he was defrauded of his entire Bitcoin savings in a sophisticated phishing attack.

The G. Love & Special Sauce frontman took to X (formerly Twitter) earlier this week to recount the devastating incident. He explained that his retirement fund vanished after he inadvertently downloaded a malicious, counterfeit version of a Ledger app from the Apple App Store while attempting to sync his hardware wallet to a new computer.

“All my BTC gone in an instant,” the artist lamented. He later clarified the severity of the loss, confirming that 5.9 BTC—valued at approximately $439,000 at the time of the report—had been stolen.

Addressing critics who questioned the authenticity of his claims, the musician expressed his frustration: “It’s just hard to get scammed. F—k all the detractors who called me a liar.”

Reflecting on the ordeal, he admitted that despite his years of experience in the digital currency space, he fell victim to his own lack of caution. “I’ve been involved in the crypto landscape since 2017,” he noted. “Today, they caught me off guard. It was my own fault for not being more vigilant, but I want this to serve as a warning: there are so many scams out there.”

There may be a glimmer of hope, however. The stolen funds were reportedly traced to the exchange platform KuCoin. In a promising turn of events, the exchange reached out to the musician via X, confirming they had placed a temporary hold on the associated accounts for seven days while they investigate the fraudulent activity.

“It’s disheartening to encounter so many bad actors,” G. Love added. “I still believe in the potential of crypto, but I have been burned quite a bit at this point.”

On the charts, G. Love remains a respected figure, having placed nine albums on the Billboard 200, including his 2011 effort, Fixin’ to Die, which climbed to No. 8 on the Top Rock Albums chart. Most recently, G. Love & Special Sauce released their latest project, Ode to R.L., this past November.
