Francis Ford Coppola Sold His Island After ‘Megalopolis’ Flopped

The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola reportedly had to sell his private island for $1.8 million after the commercial failure of his epic, Megalopolis.

The property, known as Coral Caye, is located in Belize, Central America. Coppola is said to have put about $120 million of his own money into making Megalopolis, including funds from the sale of his winery. The film earned roughly $14.4 million worldwide.

Megalopolis follows an architect (played by Adam Driver) who possesses the ability to freeze time. The cast also features Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Dustin Hoffman, among others. Critics were largely unimpressed, and the film holds a 45% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
