Focusing on the Little Things
Hello everyone, it’s wonderful to connect with you all again. I truly hope you’ve had a fantastic week.
First off, I need to share a bit of bittersweet news. The upcoming August patch has been pushed back slightly and is now scheduled for an early September release. I sincerely apologize for the delay and any disappointment this may cause. Please rest assured that I am pouring all my energy into getting this update ready for you as quickly as possible.
Rather than introducing sprawling new content this time around, our team has concentrated on refining the core mechanics that govern everyday life and behavior in inZOI. While this might not feel like a massive content drop, countless hours of development have gone into fortifying the bedrock of our life-simulation systems for the long haul.
Today, I’d love to showcase one of these foundational systems and get your valuable feedback on it.
Previously, when a Zoi visited a venue like a burger joint, they would simply linger there for a predetermined duration. However, instead of actually ordering and eating during that window, they might drift off to chat with strangers, inspect random items, or engage in activities completely unrelated to their initial purpose for being there.
To resolve this immersion-breaking behavior, we’ve engineered two brand-new mechanics (you can catch a live demonstration of these in the linked video below).
The first is a Location-Based Priority System, which empowers us to define specific goals and actions that Zois must prioritize upon entering a particular venue.
The second is an Interaction Permission Framework, granting us precise control over who is allowed to utilize specific objects.
To paint a picture: at the burger restaurant, a Zoi will now step inside, place an order at the kiosk, wait patiently in a designated customer seat, collect and enjoy their meal, and then naturally head back home once their outing concludes. Better yet, employees will finally stop lounging in seats explicitly meant for paying patrons!
That said, if you have heavily customized certain regions or spaces yourself, you may need to re-register some of this newly implemented data. While the volume of data isn’t massive, we understand it could create a bit of extra work for avid builders. To make this smoother, we are also developing a streamlined reset option to properly integrate the new system automatically.
I wanted to present this concept to you before pushing it into the live development build so we could gauge your thoughts first. Should the community strongly oppose this direction, we remain entirely prepared to pause and re-evaluate.
Ultimately, I firmly believe that implementing these subtle yet vital systems is paramount. Without them, Zois risk feeling like hollow avatars merely killing time in a space, rather than authentic individuals driven by genuine routines and personal agency.
On a final note—walking home from work recently, I couldn’t help but notice how brilliantly the stars are shining lately. The evenings are carrying a crisper, cooler breeze, signaling that summer is slowly yielding to the change of seasons.
The long, sun-drenched days of summer are gradually drawing to a close.
Thank you for spending yet another week with the inZOI community. Because this update is landing a bit later than anticipated, we are doubling down our efforts to ensure it delivers an even more polished experience when it finally arrives.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead. I’ll see you right back here next week!
