Gonzalez’s concern is understandable. Renewal for a second season makes it clear Amazon is pleased with Fallout’s audience reach, but most viewers won’t know his name. Even within the fan community, figures like Todd Howard or director Josh Sawyer tend to be more widely recognized, despite Gonzalez’s substantial role in shaping the game’s world, characters, and narrative. He says this is simply how storytelling work often gets distributed across different media.
“In some ways, writing narrative for games is similar to working on comic books,” he explained. “In the ’60s and ’70s people might say, ‘You created Spider-Man? Good for you.’ We know Steve Ditko’s name, but the character doesn’t belong to him — those weren’t the terms under which the work was done. It really highlights, to me, what Leonard Boyarsky and Tim Cain accomplished when they first imagined this world.”
Fallout season 2 premieres on December 17 on Prime Video, with new episodes arriving each Wednesday until the season finale on February 4.
Fallout’s TV adaptation proved “way more” popular than Todd Howard expected, forcing the game’s developers to ensure the titles are prepared for the flood of new players.
