While the premiere date for Fallout season 3 remains under wraps, the upcoming installment is tasked with untangling a web of lingering mysteries. From the potential relocation to the rugged landscapes of Utah to the uncertain fate of protagonists like Lucy MacLean, the series has no shortage of narrative threads. However, one specific enigma looms larger than the rest: the grotesque, baffling transformation of Thaddeus, portrayed with unsettling vulnerability by Johnny Pemberton.
Thaddeus’s journey has been nothing short of a nightmare. Originally introduced as a cruel initiate within the Brotherhood of Steel, his penchant for tormenting others eventually led to a violent falling out with Maximus, resulting in a mangled foot. His desperate reliance on a mysterious, shifty merchant’s cure served as the catalyst for his physical unraveling, leaving him convinced he was morphing into a ghoul—a fate that forced him into exile to avoid the Brotherhood’s lethal intolerance.
By the second season, however, it becomes clear that Thaddeus is suffering from an affliction far more volatile than standard radiation sickness. As he begins to lose limbs and spontaneously develop extra appendages, it’s evident that his biological trajectory is veering into uncharted territory.

“There is a mountain of theories out there,” Pemberton told us. “I think the beauty of it is that the Fallout universe is so vast and established that it leaves everything open to interpretation. Anything is possible in these wastes.”
Since the onset of season 2, the community has been rife with speculation. Some enthusiasts are betting on a transformation into a centaur, while others suggest he is becoming a vessel for the Super Mutant strain briefly glimpsed last season.
Regardless of his final form, fans will have to exercise patience before getting any definitive answers—or perhaps, they may be left to draw their own conclusions entirely.
