Archive Materials Suggest Wing Commander 3 Remaster May Be in Development After 32 Years
The original version was worked on by a specialist who later created Star Citizen.
Players recently revisited the 1994 space action game Wing Commander 3 Heart of the Tiger. After many years, the project may return in an updated format.
Electronic Arts producer Jim Vessella teased a remaster during the Portland Retro Gaming Expo. He shared that while digitizing the EA video archive, he managed to discover 600 source recordings.
One of the presentation slides mentions an edition titled Wing Commander 3 Heart of the Tiger “30th Anniversary Edition”. Features of this version include gamepad support, gameplay at up to 60 FPS, integration of the “Community Enhancement Patch” and Kilrahi Saga, improved audio, and upscaled FMV scenes. No specific release date or launch window has been announced yet. The game is scheduled to appear on Steam, GOG, and the EA App.

Notably, Chris Roberts participated in the creation of Wing Commander 3 Heart of the Tiger. Today, the developer is working on the ambitious space simulator Star Citizen, which also has the Squadron 42 campaign in development. A store page for Squadron 42 recently opened on Steam.
