Square Enix Wants to Maximize Nintendo Switch 2 for New Final Fantasy VII
Square Enix expects to improve graphics and optimization for Final Fantasy VII Revelation on the Nintendo Switch 2 compared to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, despite the increased scale of the new game.
Series director Naoki Hamaguchi told Nintendo Everything that porting Rebirth to the Switch 2 provided valuable experience for the team. Without it, developing the next installment simultaneously across multiple platforms would have been much more difficult.
The studio now intends to use the knowledge it gained to achieve high image quality even on less powerful hardware. This is not about mechanically raising graphical settings, but rather about improving optimization.
Although the team is pleased with the results of Rebirth, it wants to push further. At the same time, Square Enix does not plan to let simultaneous multi-platform development negatively impact the quality of the game.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will release for the Nintendo Switch 2 on April 8, 2027.
