PUBG: Blindspot, the top-down tactical spin-off of the world-renowned battle royale, is slated for a premature shutdown less than two months after its Steam Early Access debut. For those curious about this isometric experiment, this coming weekend marks the final window of opportunity to play.
The title will be delisted and its servers deactivated at 5 a.m. EDT on Monday, March 30. Having been available for a mere 53 days, its lifespan is only marginally longer than that of Highguard, another of this year’s most high-profile live-service disappointments.
In a statement posted to Steam, developer Sequoia Yang of the ARC Team explained that while the studio explored numerous avenues to refine the gameplay and ensure longevity, they ultimately concluded they could not “sustainably provide the level of experience” originally envisioned. While the project is ending, the ARC Team will remain together, with Yang noting that the lessons learned during the development of PUBG: Blindspot will “inform our future development efforts.”
Released on February 5 by Krafton and PUBG Corporation’s ARC Team, PUBG: Blindspot pivoted away from massive survival maps in favor of intimate, objective-based combat. Reminiscent of Rainbow Six Siege, the game featured 5v5 skirmishes in destructible environments, centering on a high-stakes bomb-defusal mode.
Despite the pedigree of the IP, the game failed to capture a meaningful audience. Data from SteamDB reveals that PUBG: Blindspot reached an all-time concurrent player peak of just 3,251 shortly after launch. Since then, participation has cratered; the current 24-hour peak sits at a meager 184 players—a dire statistic for a title reliant on multiplayer matchmaking.
Early impressions of the game were often lukewarm. The combat frequently felt cumbersome compared to faster-paced tactical shooters, leading to a gameplay loop that felt more tedious than tense. Furthermore, the aesthetic and character designs struggled to stand out in a crowded market, and the thematic connection to the broader PUBG universe felt superficial at best.
In the fiercely competitive landscape of multiplayer shooters, a title must offer a distinct and polished hook to survive. PUBG: Blindspot unfortunately missed that mark. If you wish to witness the game before it vanishes, it remains free to download on Steam throughout the weekend until the final shutdown at 5 a.m. EDT on March 30.
