From the moment KPop Demon Hunters debuted on Netflix in June 2025, fans have been eager to know everything they can about the Huntr/x trio, global pop stars by day and demon-slaying heroes by night. While the main story focuses on Rumi’s struggle with her demonic heritage and her growing friendship with Jinu, the heart of KPop Demon Hunters is the relationship between Rumi and her fellow demon slayers, Mira and Zoey.

Fans knew the three came together to use their songs and fame to restore the Honmoon, a magical barrier that protects the world from demons. However, Huntr/x’s relationship was not explored in as much depth as it could have been. The Art of KPop Demon Hunters by Tracy Miller-Zarneke, published by Random House Worlds, dives deep into the animated film’s characters, relationships, and backgrounds.

The 144-page art book boasts over 500 pieces of concept art, coupled with creator commentary from the writers, directors, artists, and animators. It also offers new insight into the inspiration behind every creative choice, from real-life family stories to K-Pop idol groups, anime, Korean mythology, and more.

Ahead of its release next week, Polygon was given the exclusive opportunity to reveal pages from the art book featuring character art and behind-the-scenes information never seen before.

HUNTR/X serves as a family of sorts, especially for Rumi, filling a gap that was ripped open when her warrior mother was killed, at a time when Rumi was just a baby. The trio each come from broken families, lonely upbringings, where they never felt like they truly belonged anywhere, and so they really need this group to be their safe place.

Maggie Kang, writer and director of KPop Demon Hunters, explains this background in the book. The friendship between the three women is the heart of the film, and only through Zoey and Mira’s acceptance can Rumi stay true to herself by the end. It is fulfilling for Kang and others to see how much the trio’s love for one another is shaped by their troubled past.

There is plenty more backstage information for fans to discover when The Art of KPop Demon Hunters is released on Sept 8, 2026.
