EA reassures employee-activists, pledges not to cede creative control to new owners
The company reassures staff that there will be no layoffs and that everyday workflows will remain unchanged.
Electronic Arts addressed employees’ urgent questions in a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), seeking to calm concerns about the proposed sale of the company to a consortium of investors that includes the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
In the section on corporate culture, EA emphasizes that the company’s mission and values will stay the same.
We will retain creative control, and our reputation for creative freedom and for putting players first will not be compromised.
The company vows to continue operating according to principles of creativity, innovation, passion, resolve, continuous learning, and teamwork. EA says the consortium fully supports these goals and is “prepared to invest in our exceptional employees and strong culture”.
Current and former EA staff have repeatedly voiced concerns that prospective owners from conservative Saudi Arabia could prevent activists from advancing their personal agendas within the company’s games.
