According to the tracking site WhenToStream, the digital release date for the live-action adaptation of “Moana” has been set. The remake, which features Dwayne Johnson as the demigod Maui, will be available on international digital platforms starting September 8th.

Released in theaters this past July, “Moana” managed to pull in $315 million globally. However, this figure fell short of covering the film’s $250 million production budget, resulting in an estimated $100 million loss for Disney.

Critics were largely unimpressed, awarding the film a mere 32% rating on Rotten Tomatoes—the lowest score ever recorded for a Disney live-action remake. The original animated musical, which chronicles the journey of a Polynesian princess, premiered in 2016, followed by a sequel in 2024. Combined, both animated installments grossed an impressive $1.68 billion at the box office.
