Disney+ Cancels Power Rangers Series

Disney+ has officially pulled the plug on its upcoming live-action Power Rangers series, according to a report from Deadline.

First announced in 2025, the project was set to be spearheaded by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the creative minds behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The series was being developed in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment, but reports indicate that the decision to cancel was driven by concerns over its prohibitive production costs.

This marks another failed attempt to revitalize the franchise; back in 2020, Netflix sought to reboot the series under the guidance of The End of the F***ing World director Jonathan Entwistle, though that iteration also ultimately stalled before entering production.

The Power Rangers franchise first captivated audiences in 1993, following a group of high schoolers from the fictional town of Angel Grove who defend the world against the alien sorceress Rita Repulsa. A big-budget feature film attempt in 2017 similarly struggled, resulting in a lackluster box office performance and mixed critical reviews.
