Disney+ cancels live-action Gargoyles series

Greg Weisman, the creator of Gargoyles, has shed light on the status of his most iconic animated projects. In an interview with ComicsOnline, he confirmed that the live-action adaptation of the beloved series, which had been in development for Disney+, has been officially scrapped.

According to Weisman, although the studio Atomic Monster had secured the rights to spearhead the live-action project, the endeavor was ultimately shelved. The writer remained non-committal regarding a potential return of Gargoyles in animation, noting that Disney currently has no active plans for any live-action iteration of the franchise.

Despite this setback, Weisman continues to nurture the world of the original series. He is currently crafting new Gargoyles comics for Dynamite Entertainment, which holds the official Disney license. The author admits that he never truly stopped exploring the lives of these characters, having amassed roughly a dozen notebooks filled with story concepts and an extensive, 500-page chronology detailing the series’ vast universe.
