Director Found for “Spring Breakers” Sequel
Actress Bella Thorne has announced that she will personally pen the screenplay and direct the follow-up to the 2012 cult comedy “Spring Breakers.”
The producers… asked me to write something to see if they liked it. They did. Now, I am writing the script and directing ‘Spring Breakers 2.’ We are collaborating with the original team, and everyone is on board,
— Thorne revealed during the “Call Her Daddy” podcast.
Thorne will take over the directorial reins from Harmony Korine and is set to star in the film. She will be joined on screen by Ariel Martin, Grace Van Dien, and True Whitaker. Development of the sequel was first reported last year. The plot follows a group of young women embarking on a chaotic road trip across California that quickly spirals out of control.
The original film’s writer and director, Harmony Korine, will not be involved in the production of the second installment. The original “Spring Breakers” debuted in 2012, featuring performances by James Franco, Selena Gomez, and Vanessa Hudgens. The project was a box-office success, grossing $30 million worldwide against a modest $5 million budget.
