Popular titles are being ported to consoles.
The teams behind the truck-driving simulators Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator have released a new developer diary.
This time SCS Software focuses on work for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S console versions:
“Although we’re already at an advanced stage, there’s still a long road ahead before we can deliver this oversized load.”
The project was initiated more than five years ago and stands as one of SCS Software’s largest undertakings, involving a substantial number of developers.
Consoles operate differently than PCs, so the team had to account for that when adapting gameplay systems and DLC.
Technical changes were necessary — for instance, the engine wasn’t originally designed to run across multiple CPUs, so multi-core support had to be implemented.
Marketers must adapt as well: they need to learn how to communicate with a new audience.
