Developers Issue Fix for NVIDIA GPU Flickering Bug

Some users had been dealing with this issue for months.

NVIDIA recently announced the release of GeForce driver hotfix 616.86. It is designed to fix several bugs, one of which has been troubling some of the company’s graphics card owners for a long time.

The developers reported that they fixed an issue where updating to driver 616.56 made it impossible to create virtual displays. In addition, they resolved a bug where installing driver 616.56 could cause a black screen to appear during Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) sessions.

The developers also stated that they fixed an issue causing periodic flickering when visiting certain websites in web browsers.

Judging by the comments, some PC users with NVIDIA graphics cards suffered from the flickering bug for months. Players even assumed that the problem was not software-related and could mean their graphics card was dying.

AyoJake admitted that he already thought he was losing his mind: “I recently had a 2080 Ti sent to me as a replacement for a 1080 Ti, and I thought it was dying. I felt like I was losing my mind because it [the flickering] happened completely unpredictably.”

However, reports of flickering still appear. Sometimes rolling back to older drivers, such as the 610 series, helps affected players.
