Detective Conan Creator Has Already Drawn Storyboard for Final Chapter
The story of Detective Conan has spanned more than three decades, and the manga’s conclusion is now drafted on paper. Series creator Gosho Aoyama has drawn the “name”—the rough storyboard detailing page layouts, panels, and character dialogue—for the final chapter. The artist revealed the milestone during a Japanese television special.
“The name for the final chapter is already drawn. Do you want to see it? […] It will be interesting.”
Aoyama did not share plot details or specify when readers will see the final chapter. The completed storyboard does not indicate that the manga will end in the near future, but it confirms the author has a clear vision for the finale. For longtime fans, the development ensures that the detective’s journey will eventually reach an official resolution.

During the broadcast, Aoyama admitted that he never expected the series to last this long. He initially believed Detective Conan would quickly lose popularity, noting that he first grasped the franchise’s true scale after the release of the first theatrical film.
Aoyama also discussed the series’ longevity with Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, which has run since 1997:
“When I spoke with Eiichiro Oda, we talked about how we are probably the only ones whose manga turns into an anime every single week.”
Detective Conan has run in Weekly Shonen Sunday since January 1994. The anime television adaptation began airing in 1996, reached its 30th year of broadcast, and has surpassed 1,200 episodes. The franchise also includes a theatrical line of 29 feature-length anime films.
