The Japanese production “Demon Slayer: The Infinite Castle” has earned $555 million at the global box office, securing its place as the highest-grossing anime film ever.
In the United States the film topped the box office for a second consecutive week, bringing its domestic total to $104.7 million. International takings have exceeded $450 million, and the title has also become the highest-grossing Japanese movie of all time.
Adapted from Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga of the same name, The Infinite Castle follows teenager Tanjiro Kamado, whose family is slaughtered and whose younger sister Nezuko is transformed into a demon. Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps, and soon Muzan Kibutsuji — the progenitor of all demons and the killer of Tanjiro’s family — emerges at the estate of the Corps’ leader.
An anime television series debuted in 2019, and two feature films — Demon Slayer: Mugen Train and Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village — were released in 2020 and 2023, respectively.
