DCU’s Batman Relaunch Is Still Happening — Separate From Robert Pattinson’s Batman-Verse

The DCU’s new Batman movie remains some distance from release, and for now the pressing question is when the sequel to Robert Pattinson’s take on the Dark Knight will arrive. Meanwhile, director Andy Muschietti offered a brief update on the DCU’s Batman: Brave and the Bold — which centers on Bruce Wayne as Batman and his son Damian Wayne as Robin — while speaking to press about It: Welcome to Derry. He didn’t, however, resolve the awkwardness of having two active Batmen potentially sharing the box office at the same time.

Details about the project are tightly controlled, but Muschietti’s sister and Welcome to Derry co-creator, Barbara Muschietti, confirmed the film is still moving forward. “The intention is yes, but we can’t talk about it,” she said. Andy added, “We have to wait a few, a couple of months to start talking about it.”

As Muschietti himself conceded, trying not to say anything sometimes has the opposite effect: “I screwed it already,” he admitted with a laugh.

Muschietti, who previously directed The Flash (2023), is well acquainted with the secrecy that surrounds superhero productions. James Gunn previously described Brave and the Bold as the DCU’s introduction to Batman in its Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters era, noting the film adapts elements of Grant Morrison’s acclaimed run. Gunn has called Damian Wayne “my favorite Robin” — “a little assassin that Batman tries to get in line” — and said the story explores the early formation of the Bat Family. (See Gunn’s remarks.)

More recently, Gunn provided another brief status update on The Brave and the Bold, saying, “We’re working on a script. We have a screenwriter who’s hammering away at it. I’m very involved, and so we’ll see what happens next. I wish I had more news for you, but I don’t.” That update suggests the project is actively developing, though it may be some time before details or a release window appear. By the time this Batman is ready for theaters, Robert Pattinson’s era could already be history — and when official news does arrive, fans will inevitably dive into the familiar ritual of scrutinizing whoever is next to don the cape and cowl.
