Not every idea from the developers found broad acceptance within the community.

In December, fans and CDPR marked the fifth anniversary of Cyberpunk 2077. The development team has been speaking with journalists and reminiscing about the project.

Cyberpunk 2077’s quest director, Paweł Sasko, spoke with The Gamer and discussed the particulars of crafting romantic storylines.

Many players in the Cyberpunk 2077 community were put off by River Ward’s arc because of what they saw as his clinginess, but the developers say that wasn’t the intent:

That wasn’t our intention. He’s simply a man who will always defend you, no matter what.

Paweł noted that River was designed by a woman, so his portrayal wasn’t shaped by a stereotypical “male” viewpoint.

The developer believes the backlash stems from the fact that everyone approaches romance differently:

Romance and love in our lives are personal and unique. We love different people in different ways.
