Creators of the flight sim “Korea. IL-2” reveal external weapons — bombs, rockets, napalm

1C Game Studios continues to unveil further details about the project.

The team behind “Korea. IL-2 Series” recently released new teasers. 1C Game Studios took the opportunity to discuss external ordnance.

They pointed out a distinctive feature of how this category of weapons was handled in the 1950s:

“Within the Soviet military aviation paradigm of the 1940s–1950s, aircraft roles were highly specialized. Among the Soviet fighters represented in the game, only the MiG-15 could carry bombs (two 100‑kg bombs), while rocket armament was used exclusively by the Il-10 ground‑attack aircraft.

This contrasts sharply with American practice, which favored universal combat aircraft: fighters could deploy a wide range of bombs and rockets.”

For example, in piston‑engine aviation the Soviet La-11 and Yak-9P lacked provisions for external ordnance altogether, whereas the American F-51D fighter could be fitted with two pylons for bombs up to 1,000 lb each and six rocket hardpoints. Engineers provided the option to replace the two bomb pylons with four rocket racks.

The developers confirmed that American aircraft will have access to a “110gal Napalm” — a 110‑gallon incendiary tank (“napalm”), approximately 416 liters.
