Cory Barlog is making God of War again – insider

A new installment in the God of War franchise may already be in active development, with Cory Barlog reportedly returning to the helm. This insight comes from a well-regarded industry source known for accurate PlayStation-related leaks.

If these reports are validated, it would mark the significant return of the series’ most influential visionary. However, it also suggests that the unannounced original IP Barlog was rumored to be spearheading for several years may have been postponed or scrapped in favor of this heavy hitter.

Barlog serves as the Creative Director at Santa Monica Studio, the internal Sony powerhouse behind the legendary franchise. He is widely credited with the masterstroke 2018 reboot, which redefined the series by introducing a more mature narrative, a cinematic tone, and a modernized combat system.

The latest wave of speculation was ignited by a conversation on X (formerly Twitter). When user JorRaptor suggested that Barlog is currently focused on a new project within the God of War universe, insider Shpeshal Nick provided a succinct but direct confirmation: “Him.”

Should this prove true, it indicates that Sony might be consolidating its resources around its most bankable intellectual properties rather than gambling on unproven brands. While fans have long theorized about a potential shift to Egyptian mythology following the conclusion of God of War Ragnarök, such ideas remain speculative. As of now, Sony has yet to provide an official statement.
